A Library Card
Anyone who lives in or pays property taxes in Washington County is eligible for a free library card. Your library card is accepted at all Washington County Library and Library Express locations, Washington County Law Library, Stillwater Public Library, and Bayport Public Library.
Your Washington County Library card can also be used at other library systems in the Twin Cities metro area, as well as at most public libraries in Minnesota.

Anyone who lives in or pays property taxes in Washington County is eligible for a Washington County Library card. To get a library card you can do any of the following:
- Visit a branch in person and speak with a staff person. Proof of address, such as a driver's license or a piece of mail, will speed up the registration process.
- Call your local branch. A library card will be mailed to you.
- Fill out this registration form. A librarian will contact you within 24 hours to complete the registration process.
If you have a library card issued by a regional library system in Minnesota, you may register and enjoy borrowing privileges in Washington County. If you don’t have a library card number or don’t know what your number is, please contact your home library system.
To register your card in Washington County:
- Visit a branch in person and speak with a staff person. You will be asked to provide your valid library card number.
- Call a Washington County Library branch. You will need to have your valid library card number available.
- Fill out this registration form. You will need to have your valid library card number available for the online application. A librarian will contact you within 24 hours to complete the registration process.
If you live outside of Minnesota or cannot get a library card from a regional library system in Minnesota, you may purchase an annual Washington County Library card for $60. To purchase a library card, visit a branch in person and speak with a staff person.
Washington County Library offers special library cards with additional borrowing privileges for educators, students, and organizations.
Educator Card
Cards that allow additional checkouts are available to educators who are Minnesota residents. This includes public schools, private schools, home-school teachers, and tutors. This card is valid for two years.
Student Card
Students who attend a Washington County school but do not live in Washington County can apply for a library card. This card is valid for one year.
Organization Card
Organization cards are available for non-profits, government units, civic organizations, and businesses in Washington County. Cards are good for one year and allow up to five members of an organization to borrow library materials and access digital resources. This card is valid for one year.

Renewing Your Library Card
Most library cards need to be renewed every three years. If a library card is not renewed, you will not be able to check out items or use our online services.
You will receive an email notice before your card expires. To renew your card, you will need to confirm your card number and valid contact information in-person at any branch, by phone, or by email at AskALibrarian@washcolib.libanswers.com.
Cards for educators, students, and organizations need to be renewed annually.
Replacing Your Library Card
If you damage or lose your Washington County Library card, please contact your local library branch as soon as possible. Library staff will replace your card at no cost. If your card is from another library system, you will need to contact them about a replacement.
