September is Library Card Sign-up Month!

This month we’re excited to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month, an annual event where we join with the American Library Association to promote the benefits of a library card for students, families, and learners of all ages.

If you don't have a library card already, signing up for one is the best way to celebrate! You can get a library card by visiting your local branch or by filling out an online application.

If you already have a library card, high fives from us! Here are four ideas for how you can still celebrate:

  • Encourage someone you know to sign up for a library card! There are many people who don't know about the many free things you can access with a library card. The next time someone talks about getting ebooks from Audible or downloading Duolingo, take the opportunity to tell them about using Libby and Transparent Language. People who already love the library are the best ambassadors we have!
  • Share your library hauls on social media! Excited to finally be off the holds list for the latest William Kent Krueger book? Find a great recommendation on a library display? Share what you've found at the library on your social media channels to show people some of what you can check out at the library.
  • Ask a librarian for a recommendation! A key librarian skill is helping connect someone with exactly what they're looking for. Talk to a librarian at your local branch to get a recommendation for your next great read.
  • Visit a new-to-you library! While you don't need a library card to visit any library, tourism to a new-to-you branch can be full of unexpected delights. Try new toys in the children's area, find a different comfortable chair to read the newspaper in, or just wander the stacks to see what different authors you might find.

One way we're celebrating this year is by launching a new library card! You can find our new dog-themed library card at all library branches.

Remember, anyone who lives (or pays property taxes) in Washington County is eligible for a free library card! Visit any library branch or fill out an application online to get started.
