Write in our Midst is back! This annual series is part of our Winter Reads program for adults. Staci Drouillard lives and works in her hometown of Grand Marais, Minnesota, on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Her first book, Walking the Old Road: A People’s History of Chippewa City and the Grand Marais Anishinaabe was awarded the Hamlin Garland prize for popular history from the Midwestern History Association, won the NE Minnesota Book Award for non-fiction and was a finalist for an MN Book Award. Her most recent book, Seven Aunts, is an unconventional portrait of family and women’s lives in northern Minnesota.

A lifelong paddler and river lover, Natalie Warren was one of the first two women to paddle over 2,000 miles from Minneapolis to Hudson Bay and describes that experience in her book Hudson Bay Bound. Warren is also a contributing writer to several outdoor publications and started a nonprofit to present urban rivers as natural, dynamic classrooms for youth. Additionally, she is a Ph.D. candidate researching environmental communication at the University of Minnesota, where she studies the human-nature relationship.

Join us at Wildwood Library in Mahtomedi to meet self-proclaimed "Laundry Evangelist" Patric Richardson. Richardson is the author of Laundry Love: Finding Joy in a Common Chore and operates Mona Williams at The Mall of America.

Few know the walleye as well as Paul J. Radomski does. This fisheries biologist, lake ecology scientist, and old fisherman is also the author of Walleye: Beautiful Fish of the Dark. From the simple pleasures of fishing for walleye to the most pressing questions about how this species survives, this book is the best word on this beautiful fish of the dark.

Thursday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. | R.H. Stafford Library

R.H. Stafford Library in Woodbury will host New York Times best-selling Author Abby Jimenez in the Central Park Amphitheatre. Jimenez is the author of titles such as Life's Too Short and Part of Your World. She also founded Nadia Cakes out of her home kitchen in 2007. The bakery has since gone on to win numerous Food Network competitions and has amassed an international following.
