On March 19, the Washington County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Lakeland Plaza to provide 4,300 square feet for Valley Library.
The Valley Library has been located in Lakeland Plaza for almost 30 years. In November, the board approved a new lease agreement that would expand Valley Library’s rented space from 2,500 to 3,500 square feet by moving an existing wall into the neighboring space, formerly home of Lakeland Antiques.
As project plans developed, it became clear that it’s more cost effective to move Valley Library into the space formerly occupied by the antique store rather than expanding through renovation. The larger location for Valley Library will allow additional space to meet the library’s programming and meeting room needs. Moving into a new space will also allow the library to remain open while the new space is being renovated.
The new space will be between the current library and the Post Office. Construction on the $1.2 million project is expected to take place between May and July.
