Get started with Job & Career Accelerator

Washington County Library offers a number of databases and tools to help job seekers or career explorers get ahead. One popular database is Job & Career Accelerator, an online job search and training resource you can access using your library card.

This is a great resource for job seekers of all types – high school students, former military members, career changers, and more – because the skills assessment and resume-building options available for free through Job & Career Accelerator are similar to those found on sites that require a payment or subscription.

You can set up an account with Job & Career Accelerator using your library card number, PIN, and an email address. Setting up an account allows users to save information about occupations, job searches, and resumes.

The site offers a number of different tools:

  • Find a career match – This section has two different quizzes that look at skills and interests. Based on the results of each quiz, you can get a list of matching careers to explore.

  • Explore occupations – This section allows users to take a deep dive into over 1,000 different career options. Users can browse through different occupation groups or search for careers in different specialized areas like green economy jobs or military-to-civilian occupations. Once a user has selected an occupation, they can review information like wages and growth trends, tools and technology, necessary skills and education, and more.

  • Search for jobs and internships – Job & Career Accelerator is connected to Indeed.com, so users will be able to search those listings from inside the site.

  • Tools to get hired – Users can create and save resumes and cover letters, and practice doing interviews. Writing a resume takes time, but the tools in Job & Career Accelerator will walk you through the process.

  • Career Library – This section includes ebooks to learn more about different topics like writing, interviewing, and career overviews.

  • College Finder – Browse colleges based on different criteria. This tool is useful for users who need to get a specific degree for a particular career.

In each area of the site, users can seek more guidance for specific types of job seekers – high school students, college students, veterans, or career changers.

When you find a career you’re interested in, you can save it to your profile. Job & Career Accelerator will then suggest practice test, ebooks, and other resources to learn more.

While self-assessment and online learning can be great, sometimes in-person information is better. Join us at a Job Fair on April 24, hosted in partnership by the Washington County Workforce Center and the Washington County Library, to meet employers and get all of your questions answered.
